Connect to Turkey

Netflix picks its catalogue by the country you watch from, so a Turkish IP brings up the Turkish one. Paying Turkish prices is harder. Spotify Premium may want a payment method issued in Turkey, and Steam dropped lira prices in November 2023.

Netflix, Spotify and Steam

Netflix catalogue

What you can watch varies by country, and Netflix goes by where you are. Two things can get in the way. Netflix doesn’t support VPN connections on its ad-supported plans, and when it recognises a data-centre address it shows the “You seem to be using a VPN or proxy” error.

Spotify region

Spotify sets a new account’s country from where you are when you sign up, so an account created over a Turkish connection starts out Turkish. Paying for Premium there may then take a payment method issued in Turkey.

Steam. A Turkish IP changes nothing here. The Turkish store moved to US dollar prices on 20 November 2023.

Picking Turkey

On the main screen, tap Search and type “Turk”. Turkey and Turkmenistan stay in the grid. Tap Turkey and Bebra connects.

Netflix errors and Spotify accounts

Netflix says I seem to be using a VPN or proxy

On an ad-supported plan a new server won’t help, because that plan doesn’t work over a VPN at all. On other plans the error means Netflix has recognised a data-centre address, so try a fresh one. In Account → Settings, tap Find working server and the app picks up new IPs. We can’t promise Netflix will accept them.

Should I open a new Spotify account or move my current one?

A new account takes its country from where you are when you sign up. A free account you already have is moved on your account page, and Spotify only offers the new country there once you’re in it. On Premium, a country change takes effect from your next billing date.
